Clothes that keep you warm

Submitted by on Sep 3, 2021

Now, even though we are in what is supposed to be a warm season, climate change has affected the weather more than one can put in words. And as we all know, we must fight the causes, not the effects (always do your best to reduce, reuse and recycle all the products you can). However, we cannot fight climate change while being cold, so we must dress up accordingly. If you want to combat climate change, you might as well do it in style. Here are some clothes that will definitely keep you warm throughout all the seasons.

Down jackets

Yes, this might have given you nightmares when you were a child, and your mother used to send you to school wearing an oversized down jacket, which was dozens of times your own weight, but as you grew older, you started to realize how comfortable and convenient they are. Most of them have more pockets than you would need, but that is exactly the thing that makes them so extraordinary. According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Down_jacket, they were first created in 1936 by Eddie Bauer, and they are usually insulated with duck or geese feathers. Its original purpose was to prevent hypothermia, a condition due to which their creator almost died once, thus making him create this splendid jacket. Though there are some people who say that it was first used in 1922 by a mountaineer, that is beside the point: the down jacket is the way to go if you want to be warm for the rest of your days. Plus, it is very durable and can be worn for years on end, without ever needing replacing.

Irish wool sweaters

If you are a die-hard fan of these garments, you already knew they were going to make this list. If not, then this is the perfect time and place to learn about what is considered by many to be the pinnacle of wool clothing. The history of this lovely garment begins on the west coast of Ireland, specifically on the Aran Islands. Crafted by the wives of the land for their husbands to withstand the cold, wet breeze of the sea, these jumpers have slowly made their way to the mainland. They owed most of their popularity to their ability to resist water. That stems from the fact they were made from a certain type of unscoured wool, that retained its natural oils, and could soak up a lot of liquid before becoming wet. The different stitching patterns also had a symbolic meaning. There are two things we know about them: first of all, every pattern meant something, but generally, they were seen as unique lucky charms for the fishermen. Secondly, it has not yet been necessarily confirmed, but they are considered to be distinctive marks for different clans that inhabited the islands so that bodies that washed up on the shore could be easily recognized. Nevertheless, if this raised your interest in a garment with an intricate history, that is sure to last a lifetime and will keep you warm in any season, find a huge selection of Irish sweaters at online stores such as Tara Irish Clothing

Wool socks

Finishing off this list, we definitely had to include these fuzzy ones in here. Whether your grandma knit them for you, or you just bought them from an outlet because they were the new chic, one can’t ever be disappointed with such items in their closet. Most of the heat in the human body is lost at the extremities, so keeping your feet warm can do you a world of good, especially if you plan on going out during rainy days. Though they make putting your shoes on quite difficult at times, because of their thickness, this is what it is called a “necessary evil”: you sacrifice a couple of minutes of your time, you struggle to put the shoes on, but this is a small price to pay for what is the ultimate comfort: warm feet. Plus, they are easy to wash, can be worn inside your house without slippers, and they are quite environmentally friendly: there is no better way of saving the planet than by doing it with warm feet!
